Valentine’s day is next week, and this Swansea Library is hoping that children will fall in love with reading this year.
Teaming up with its local primary school, St Thomas Library, Swansea, has urged parents to spend more time reading with their children to offer them a better journey through the world of education through reading.
The move, by St Thomas Library and St Thomas Community Primary School, follows findings highlighted by the Welsh Government’s ‘Education Begins at Home’ campaign which shows that children who read for pleasure are likely to see increased performance in school.
St Thomas librarian Caroline Mason said: “We have been working in partnership with St Thomas Community Primary School for the last 10 years.
“Pupils from Years 3 to 6 attend sessions twice a week at the library, with each group being given a book to read chosen by the library staff and teachers”.
The scheme has seen a growing relationship between the school and library and pupils learning has enhanced because of it.
